Based in Torquay Damp Genius offer damp proofing across the Torbay area including Brixham, Paignton, Newton Abbot and all the villages.

Properties around Torquay are extremely varied in construction, however, there are a large amount of homes constructed from random stone sometimes with rubble in the cavity. Treating these properties for damp problems does take some skill to enure that a long term solution is installed since simply injecting a damp proof course may not always be the best option.

Fortunately we are able to install all kinds of systems that can solve the problem. These could include membranes on the walls, waterproofing outside the building, classic tanking systems or damp proof course injections.

Most of the works will come with a long term guarantee that the damp will not return.

We offer the following services:

Our damp survey includes:

We understand that getting a damp problem resolved can be a time consuming process. To help make things easier we guarantee to arrive at your property at the pre-agreed survey time such as 10am – we do not give a rough window of four hours or simply offer “tuesday afternoon”. Surveys generally take around 30 minutes to an 1 hour depending of course on the size of the property and the extent of any problems.

We will happily survey whatever you need us to. If you are buying a house then typically you will want the full house looked at, but, if you own the house then of course we will just look at the area that is causing you concern.

As a rule all surveys begin outside the building with a visual check of gutters, pointing, render, chimney flashings, window seals and vegetation. It is amazing how often a damp problem can be traced back to an overgrown ivy plant!

Once the checks outside have been completed we begin downstairs with a check of the walls for rising damp. This only extends up the wall to about waist height so anything above this could be due to other problems, perhaps outside or a leak.

On the upper floors we will look for signs of damp penetration on the walls and particularly any chimney breasts. If we find any then we will look at the causes of this and give an recommendations for repairing the problem.
